Writing & Wellbeing Coaching
I help people develop a healthy and sustainable writing practice. If you want and need to get writing done regularly, I can help you do it without angst and drama. Through one-to-one coaching, group coaching, workshops and retreats, I can give you the tools you need to fit writing into your busy life, quiet the critical voices that get in the way, and even come to see your writing not as burden but as refuge.
With my help, hundreds of people have revolutionised their relationships with their writing, finished PhDs, submitted grants, published articles and completed books. You can read some of their comments here. I am happy to provide references. Many of my clients are international and/or neurodivergent.
If you’d like to join my small-group, feminist writing & wellbeing programme, please take a look at Enough! Time to Write, which I offer three times a year.
My writing coaching is generally focused on process, but if you are an academic or researcher who wants to write for a popular audience, I can draw on my expertise to help you. I have a literary agent and two book deals with trade publishers for Botanica, my work in progress. I can help you shape your book proposal and navigate the publishing industry.
You’ll find some of my free resources for writers here.
Holistic Coaching
While many people know me as a writing coach, I also help people identify values, set priorities, manage time — all essential aspects not only of getting writing done but of living a life of purpose and ease. When I work with you, I care about you as a whole person.
Some people also seek me out when they are looking to transition out of academia, as that’s a journey I completed myself in 2019. I have helped many decide whether to stay in their academic jobs and what to do if they leave; several of my clients have gone on to fulfilling work in other sectors after making the decision to take the leap.
My approach with everyone I work with is to establish an authentic relationship of equals. We start slowly, getting to know each other before we make a commitment. If we decide to work together, we agree on a series of regular sessions, with the exact number and frequency depending on needs and budget.
For some, coaching is an intervention which lasts a fixed period of time and addresses specific goals. For others, coaching is an ongoing, iterative process. I have many clients who are happy to provide references — just ask.
Group Coaching
When I work with groups, I create communities of solidarity that respect the wisdom each person brings. Group coaching provides opportunities to deepen relationships, learn from each other, and build support structures that outlive the coaching programme.
I regularly design bespoke group-coaching programmes for PhD students, academic departments and research centres. The group sessions are often bracketed by workshops or retreats and may be supplemented with individual coaching sessions.
